All referees must hold a current NH Grassroots Referee certification (first time or annual recertification).

Steps:
Visit nhreferee.org
Under “Referees”, select:
First Time Grassroots Referee (for new refs) or
Recertifying Grassroots Referee (for returning refs)
Cost is typically ~$100 for first-time certification and ~$50 for recertification.
This includes online coursework/testing and (for new referees) an in-person training session.
Courses usually run February–April, with occasional summer options.

Register for the current TYSL season

Under Assignors, ensure Ashley Harrison is selected
Enter all availability, including blackout dates/times
Select your age group and position preferences
To referee U8 games, “Center” must not be marked “Unpreferred”.
Additional Requirements:
Medical Release Form (under eighteen; valid for one year)
Risk Management Background Check (18+)

Referees must be familiar with TYSL’s division-specific rules.

Required Referee Gear:
Yellow referee shirt (short sleeve recommended)
Black referee shorts
Black referee socks (white stripe)
Whistle
Flags (any style)
Yellow & red cards
Starter kits with all essentials are usually around ~$70.
Timekeeper (watch or dedicated timer — not a phone)
Black or mostly-black sneakers or cleats
Cold-Weather Recommendations:
Black Pants
Black thermal shirt or sweatshirt (under ref shirt)
Black gloves

Managing Your Schedule:
Update availability in GotSport whenever it changes
When assigned games, Accept or Reject them promptly
If you do not Accept, you cannot be paid
New referees typically start with:
U8 Center, then
U13+ Assistant Referee, then
U10+ Center Referee
Contact the Referee Coordinator (Assignor) immediately with any scheduling issues.
Game Day Expectations:
Arrive 15 minutes early
Wear/bring all required gear
Check the field for safety
Introduce yourself to coaches and check in teams
Start games on time
If a game starts late, shorten playing time accordingly
Report any concerns to the Referee Coordinator (Assignor)
Referee Pay Rates:
$75 for all divisions and roles.
